A less formal desk

The guides and policy pages are structured, sourced and maintained as reference material. This desk is for a different kind of writing: field impressions, questions that do not yet deserve a guide, and reflections on building across institutions, villages and borders.

The current field series begins in Rural Beijing: the varied countryside and foothills beyond the city visitors usually picture when they hear ‘Beijing’. A note may begin with a drive beyond the centre, a newly published policy, an exchange with a village committee or a practical surprise encountered while building CyberNomad China. Where a claim needs a source, the source will still be identified; where the writing is interpretation, it will be presented as interpretation.
