A large village renewal project tied to Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts and an “art nomad” residency programme.

## Why it belongs on the map

Nanshan is a planned renewal project rather than an organically mature nomad colony. Tsinghua University reporting describes 226 houses and three collective-land plots in the project, with 70 boutique homestays and ten service facilities planned or renewed.

An “art nomad” programme connected to Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts aims to bring rotating artists into the village. Do not misread the 70 homestays as 70 ordinary long-term rentals.
